YOUR CHESCO VISIT
You have already received your personal boarding pass by e-mail. Please bring your boarding pass with you when you visit us.
To make your stay as pleasant as possible, we have put together some information for you.
Welcome to chesco – About us
The Center for Hybrid Electric Systems Cottbus (chesco) is a newly established research center at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, which conducts research into hybrid-electric and electric drives for climate-neutral mobility in the future.
Alternative drive systems are developed, manufactured and tested at chesco in order to reduce climate-damaging emissions in the mobility sector. The areas of application are cross-sectoral. However, the first projects will start in the field of aviation, as climate-neutral flying poses the greatest technological challenges and requires the most intensive research.

How we work
The aim of the chesco is to drastically shorten innovation cycles from several months to just a few weeks. To achieve this, chesco will unite the functional areas of design, production and testing centrally in one place and also map all processes digitally.

The chesco research factory
The chesco research factory is currently located at the Cottbus-Dissenchen site. The research factory is being set up as part of the taf – transfer of agile manufacturing methods project and consists of three areas: the project rooms for meetings and workshops with partners, the test area and the production area. Agile production methods can be demonstrated here under realistic conditions. The chesco team moved into the project rooms in October 2022 and is constantly working on setting up the individual areas. The grand opening in May 2024 marked the inauguration of the research factory with over 80 machines and systems. Spread over three halls, the production and test areas currently cover an area of 5100 sqm.

The map shows the future location of chesco as part of the Lausitz Science Park (blue), the central campus of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg (green) and the chesco research factory in the Cottbus Dissenchen district (pink).
The new chesco building is being constructed on the site of the Lausitz Science Park close to the central campus of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. The new building is currently in the planning phase with a research center for joint work on research projects with partners from science and industry, a production center f-merc (fast-make electrification research center) to produce prototypes and a test center with unique test benches for prototype tests.
With the Lausitz Science Park, a science and technology park is being built in Cottbus on an area of around 420 hectares, bringing together research, innovative spin-offs and company relocations. The park supports structural change in Lusatia and promotes close networking between science, business and society.

Cottbus and surrounding area
Cottbus is a charming university city in the south-east of Brandenburg. With just under 100,000 inhabitants, it is the second largest city in the state of Brandenburg after the state capital Potsdam. Cottbus is located in the Lower Lusatia region and offers many recreational and leisure opportunities in its green surroundings.
The city on the Spree river is known for its historic old town center and the many parks and green spaces. Particularly worth seeing is the Altmarkt with its bars and restaurants, the medieval town fortifications with Spremberg Tower and town wall as well as Branitz Park with its castle and water pyramid.

Germany’s first Newton Flight Academy has been operating in the center of Cottbus since July 1, 2024. In cooperation with First Scandinavia and Boeing, a special learning center was created that is open free of charge to school classes and preschool children but can also be used by adult aviation enthusiasts. With three full-motion flight simulators and experimental laboratories, the academy offers children, young people, and adults exciting experiences related to aviation. The Newton Flight Academy Brandenburg is a project of CHESCO GmbH.
The interactive exhibition Knowledge Creates Change on the premises of the Newton Flight Academy is also worth a visit. The exhibition, featuring various projects from the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, informs about the challenges and opportunities of a region undergoing structural change and reinventing itself.
